As part of our exciting Literary Week celebrations, we have a range of special events planned to inspire a love of reading across the school.

On Tuesday 3rd March, we are delighted to welcome children’s author Iqbal Hussain to our school. His debut children’s book was recently selected as Waterstones’ Book of the Month, and he is the winner of the Gold Fiction Prize at the 2019 Creative Future Writers’ Awards. Pupils will have the opportunity to hear about his writing journey and be inspired by a successful published author.

Wednesday 4th March will see our school Book Exchange take place during the school day. Children are invited to bring in books they no longer need from home and donate them before this date, allowing others to enjoy a new story. This is a wonderful way to share books and encourage reading for pleasure. During the week, KS1 pupils will also be visiting Chingford Library to explore a wider range of books and celebrate reading within the local community.

On Thursday 5th March, we will be celebrating World Book Day in style. Every child will receive a £1 World Book Day book token, which can be redeemed against a special £1 World Book Day title or used towards any book costing £2.99 or more at participating bookshops. To mark the occasion, children are invited to come to school dressed in their pyjamas and will take part in a variety of reading-based activities throughout the day.

We will end the day with a special “Snuggle-Up Storytime” for children in EYFS and KS1. They are warmly invited to return to school with their parents or carers from 3:15pm to 4:00pm, dressed in their pyjamas, to enjoy a biscuit and a special story together in a cosy and relaxed setting. We look forward to celebrating a fantastic week of reading with all of our pupils and community.
