Our Art Symposium offered pupils an experience filled with creativity, imagination and collaborative artmaking.
Throughout the week, pupils participated in The Big Draw project, experimenting with a variety of artistic materials and producing individual artworks inspired by the impactful theme “No Man is an Island.” This theme encouraged pupils to think deeply about empathy, community and advocacy, motivating them to use their art to express solidarity. We witnessed artwork that challenged marginalisation and exclusion, whilst celebrating inclusion and unity. We are proud that every pupil’s artwork will be submitted to the Royal Academy’s Young People’s Summer Exhibition in January, giving our young artists the exciting chance to have their ideas and perspectives seen by a wider audience.
We were also delighted to welcome Lucy from Bow Arts as our artist-in-residence for the week. Her expertise enriched the pupils’ artistic journey. Under her guidance, pupils engaged in a collaborative project that explored sketching, printing, and dyeing techniques. The group taking part in the workshop responded to the artwork The Light in Between by Nour Jaouda, which plays with shadow, texture and dappled lights within a botanical setting. A standout moment came when one pupil reflected, “I love that I discovered there is no right or wrong in art.”
Overall, Art Symposium was a week to amplify compassion and connection
